Midnight Chapter 13

I formulated a plan inside my head. Trying to figure out how to set our trap to find out who was its master. Midnight nodded his head ever so slightly toward the door as we exited. We move off to the left that headed toward more the center of the city. I know we needed to get to the palace to see about seeking an audience with Midnights friend, but I was not sure how we were exactly going to take care of the Demon.

Midnight seemed to have that plan already on what he wanted to be done. So, I followed. Easy enough right? Or so I thought!

I moved with Midnight along the crowded road, knowing full well it was still following us at a brisk pace. I risked a glance back to see if it was still following us in its man meat suit, and it was. I don;t think it knew I knew it was behind us, because it was topped by a merchant. We were too but Midnight kept walking so I made a dash to keep up with the Dragons' gait.

Merchants around here seemed to have a penchant of being able to get in your face enough for you to buy something. It was insane. If this was the Physical World, then that person would most likely get a face full of fist. Here though, it was a whole new world. Aladdin pun not included.

We kept going down the road until Midnight made a direct right turn down an alley that smelled concerning.

"What are we doing," I said out loud.

We are creating our trap for the Demon. Midnight said this, in my head, with such nonchalance. I believed him.

"So, we know what we are doing?" I asked concerned.

Of course, was his reply going down another alley. This time there were no street vendors, or anyone in fact. I knew this was where we were going to make our stand and confront our stalker.

Wish this was a stalker I wouldn't mind having, but beggars cant be choosers.

What now? I asked looking down the alleyway ready.

We both faced the entrance, him with his claws digging ever so slightly in the soil, while I stood there at the ready with my Scepter. I made sure I conjured that into my hands as soon as Midnight stopped and turned. Didn't want to get caught by a Demon with my Scepter down!

I could feel the energy hum in the Scepter and knew that it was telling me that danger was nearby. The Demon man was close.

And boy was it close! All of a sudden we could here and uneasy growl from a throat that shouldn't have been a throat to begin with. We looked up at the same time as the growl turned triumphant. The Demon was on the roof above the alley.

I looked up at it and with a hearty, fuck, I dodge out of the way just in time as a sword came crashing to the ground.

Midnight darted out of the way just in time too. He came back around tail swinging, as I backed into the opening of the alleyway to give myself some room. Midnight smashed his tail into the building behind him as the Demon jump, inhumanly high into the air. Sailing over Midnight's tail it came back down onto the ground sword pointed towards us.

It had known all along we were trying to bait it. With another hearty, fuck, out of my mouth a brought my Scepter up in self-defense.

This was going to be fun, I thought. Moving towards Midnight and the Demon I felt the Scepter call me again. This time I listened. I brought my Scepter up and felt the power hum across it as I drew the power in. I then pushed it out shooting a bolt of lightning, of all things, towards the Demon.

It brought its sword up deflecting the bolt back to the roof of the building. Hope they had insurance. I could tell Midnight was annoyed as he swung his massive spiked tail towards the Demon. We both were hoping my divergence would work, but it didn't. It was so fast i ducked out of the way this time, but it was able to take its sword up and pierce Midnight's tail.

Midnight screamed with agony from the blade. Because, naturally, it wasn't an ordinary blade. It was made out of Void. The basic component of any Demon. No matter the shape and size.

Midnight brought his tail back around, quick, hoping his time with the blade was enough to get a good wack in. This time it was enough, when the tail came back around it struck the body that the Demon was inhabiting.

I brought my Scepter back up for another blast of lightning. The Demon sailed into the building blocking our exit. I hit the Demon with a blast form the Scepter just has it hit and he went all the way through the building. It was enough.

The shock from the Scepter and the dragon tail, knocked the Demon out of the body. It was nothing but black. A cloud of black death. It reared up and darted off into the sky, above the city. We had gotten it to get out of the body, but we never got to ask it who the master was, guess we would work on that later.

That was too easy, thought Midnight. We should be ready next time.

"What do you mean too easy?"

That Demon gave up its host too easily, Demons don't like to be in their original form, because they are too vulnerable. It took a risk leaving the host when it did.

"Great. So we get to look forward to it coming back?" I said.

Yes, he answered.

I was not looking forward to another encounter, especially if Midnight said this was too easy. We will have to keep a look out.

All of a sudden we heard shouting and bells ringing off in the distance. Guess we were found out. That was a loud enough battle to wake the Dead, I thought.

"Great here come the police." I said.

We need to get out of here, thought Midnight. There is no telling what we will encounter, it is not safe for us right now. I couldn't agree more!

"Okay, let's get out of here before they show up for the after show."

I put the Scepter back into the pouch of my mind. We walked back towards the entryway of the smaller alley and went the opposite way of the whistle blowing. I guess they blew whistles here like they did in England. The movies in the physical world gave nothing to the imagination when it comes to historical pieces.

We got down the connecting alley, away from the noise of the whistle, and were able to move undetected. Now we needed to figure out what we needed to do next. I asked too.

We need to get to the Palace and see what is happening with all the new security and the Dragon attacks that seem like a regular occurrence. It looks like everyone seems to be used to the, because all of these people don't even flinch when they see me.

My people stay out of humanoid affairs for a reason. Most will exploit our size and power for personal gain. Which is why we all went into hiding. I should be the only dragon that this city has ever seen in the last thousand years,

"Well, it does seem weird that there has been a business that obviously caters to your people, on top of helping out the gustapo."

We need to keep moving. I hope we will be able to sneak into the Palace. And I hope that my friend is still alive.

I could feel Midnight feel sad about that possibility. I hope it wasn't true and we could get the answers we sought. Especially around here since everyone seemed uptight a little.

We kept walking to the path towards the palace to see Midnights friend. Actually, I didn't know his friends name.

"What is your friends name anyway," I asked.

Midnight doesn't smile, but I could still feel the inner smirk that he had all over his scaly face. He took a  minute to answer, but he did.

Hecate. One word and I knew who exactly he was talking about. Here we go!
