National Teen Self-Esteem Month
If you didn't hear it, May is National Teen Self-Esteem month. This month was created to bring awareness to the struggles of adolescences. Being a former teen, I get it! The peer pressure, the hormonal changes, and just trying to figure out yourself. So what are some things that you can do to boost your teens self-esteem?
First, don't expect them to be what you want them to be. That is the first mistake. They are still human beings and are unique. Try to expand that uniqueness by supporting them in anything they do. I can say this as a former teenager myself. I felt pressured to be something I never was just to fit in. Not only for my parents, because I didn't want to let them down, but to also be safer at school.
So another thing is to teach them how to stand up for themselves and tell them that it is okay. Fight that school tooth and nail for your kid. Don't let them walk over your kid or you. I can strongly say that my parents taught me that and I am better for it. I won't back down to a bully. I am worth just as much as the next person.
Now some things a teen can do is:
The suicide rate for any LGBT kid is higher then a cis gender straight person. Mainly because of their parents kicking them out and causing them pain by beating them up. I was lucky and have supportive parents, but not everyone does. So when you bully something or get bullied, think of what they are going through too. Because their self esteem could be so depleted that they bully you. Be mindful, but don't take shit. Words are powerful. We are seeing it today the most.
Hope this helps a little. I have links below for you to research. And sorry for the quick post! Life man!! LOL

- When you stumble get back up.
- Do things that make you feel good about yourself.
- Open yourself to compliments.
